Transportation

Our passion for driving what we want, where we want, when we want, has driven us to the cliff’s edge. Now we must adapt to a future independent of oil-based auto fuels. UC Davis’ Institute of Transportation Studies, led by Professor Daniel Sperling, is helping to create that future, by working with academics, auto and energy companies, government and non-government organizations, and by training the new generation of transportation and energy experts.

The Institute carries out research on the hows and whys of personal travel, from bicycle lanes to car commuting; on new vehicle technologies, such as electric cars and plug-in electric/gasoline hybrids, and how consumers adapt to them; and on climate change, air quality and other environmental impacts.
